California Company Invests Billions in LNG Project on the Texas Gulf

A company with California Telephone” in its name has a $9 billion liquefied natural gas project near Lake Charles, Louisiana, underway and a Houston headquarters.

Southern California Telephone and Energy LNG LLC, or SCTE LNG for short, recently inked a memorandum of understanding with a large state-owned electricity provider in Asia on Feb. 11. This is the third agreement the company has brokered since the project was announced in March 2014. The project is expected to be complete sometime between 2020 and 2222, said company President Greg Michaels.greg-michaels-bio-picture-750xx2025-2700-129-0

This most recent deal is for the sale of 1 million tons per annum of LNG from its future facilities to be constructed on Monkey Island in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

“In the Gulf, there are a bunch of different projects that have been announced and have tech that’s new to the market and train sizes that are new to the market,” said Michaels.

Michaels, a southern California native, will be moving to Houston within the year to oversee SCTE LNG’s progress.
