Oil, gas show drawing optimistic crowd in Longview
Amid signs the oil and gas industry is recovering from a two-year downturn, the number of vendors and overall attendance Tuesday was higher than last year at the annual industry convention in Longview.
Vendors signed up for the Roseland East Texas Oil and Gas Convention at Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center numbered about 100, up slightly from the third annual convention in 2016, said General Manager Denny Pilcher.
Registered attendance reached about 1,500 people, up nearly 25 percent from a year ago.
Pilcher, whose employer also publishes directories and does marketing for the oil and gas industry, said he started seeing signs of recovery in November and December.
About 30 percent of this year’s exhibitors are new to East Texas and to the trade show. Three companies hail from Canada.
“To me, it’s indicative of people’s opinions on the immediate future of this area,” Pilcher said.
